about

Following the moodier albums "Former Ghosts" and "Heathens", the goal behind 2015's "All Stations" was to take a different approach with songs that were more immediate, fun and upbeat, while retaining the sonic textures and layers of SR's previous albums.

While very much a solo record (SR, once again, performing nearly everything himself), it does feature appearances by Todd Smith (Dog Fashion Disco/Polkadot Cadaver/El Creepo), Gina Cardillo (Dear Forbidden/Gang Age), saxophonists Matt Rippetoe and Jon Radway, and guitarists Rich Banister and Brett Kull.

While this is, in essence, SR's geek-pop album, it does cover a lot of stylistic ground amongst the tracks, from mid-tempo rockers "Jet Set" and "Phoenix" to the upbeat noir of "Pig Mask Parade", as well as the Beck-meets-Steely Dan tones of "Chaperone". "This Isn't Funny Anymore" goes all-out electro-pop, while "She's Too Good" is a foot-stomping, mandolin-driven slice of musical pie. A semi-acoustic trip-hop treatment on "The Perfect Poison" hints to an underlying tension, however it isn't until two songs from the end that the listener finally gets a moment to breathe, as the ambient atmospheres of the title track, featuring Radway's former bandmate Todd Smith on chorus vocals, hint at a subtle feeling of impending danger behind the otherwise sunny(-ish?) vibes of the album.
